A lobby that transformed from a lackluster design into a contemporary and dynamic work of art.

Area: 1,300 SF

Location: New York, NY, USA
Project Completion: 2016
Project Type: Lobby Renovation
Services: Architectural Design

Just minutes from Times Square, our design took cues from the lights and features of the area. As a windowless lobby for a Residential Co-op, the existing lobby lacked proper light and memorable features.

Conceptually, we took the shape of the lobby and the common paths traversed from front to back in order to create a dynamic, feature element, the winding wood bands. Each band represents a distinct path that one could take along this path. The difference in these bands reveal a soft, diffused light from behind.

The wood was chosen both as a contrast to the intense neon and glass atmosphere of Times Square, and as a way to induce a sense of warmth into the residential lobby.
